Toe and Heeling a Bifolding Door

This guide provides a detailed explanation of how we suggest to toe and heel our doors. This is for use as a guide only as each set of doors are unique and may require different levels of packing in the toe and heeling process (amount of packers used). Please use your own judgment and if unsure please contact an experienced installer or our technical department.

The red sections display where to toe and heel on a 3 panel door all one way.

The yellow sections display the final fix packer position.

Start by toe and heeling the panel attached to the frame first and work towards the traffic door (Or slave door).

Packers are supplied in a range of sizes which are colour coded for ease of use. Packers used in this guide are an example only. Each door is unique and will require different levels of packing. Always use a range of packers to best suit the door being toe and heeled.

When toe and heeling use a glazing shovel where needed.

  1. Place 2-3 packers at the bottom of the door on the hinge side. (number of packers depends on door tolerances)
  1. Place glazed unit into door frame.
  1. Pack the top of the unit on the handle side of the door. Use a variety of packers until the glazed unit sits firm in place.
  1. Pack the side of the unit on the handle side of the door. Use a variety of packers until the glazed unit sits firm in place and square within the frame.
  1. Pack the side of the unit on the hinge side of the door. Use a variety of packers until glazed unit sits firm in place and square within the frame.
  1. Lastly pack the top side corner on the hinge side of the door. Use a variety of packers until the glazed unit sits firm in place. This will help keep the glazed unit square and in place.
  1. Check door is completely level with the outer frame. If not add or remove packers where needed.
  1. Once all panels have been toe and heeled check door is running correctly and that the locking system works correctly.
  1. If required silicone the packers on the uprights of the door into place. (this will prevent the packers from moving).
  1. Finally clip bead into place.

Secondary Glazing and How It Can Help You.

Are you worried about the ever increasing energy costs?

Windows can account for up to 30% of the heat lost from your home. It is important in this day and age to reduce energy consumption in our buildings. Single glazed windows are poor insulators and heat loss is exacerbated if the window does not have effective seals. With energy cost having an astonishing 20% increase within the coming year where does that leave the humble home owner. These escalating cost show no sign of coming down so what do we do?

Well we at Duration Windows have a cost effective solution to help you keep these ever increasing costs down. Our secondary glazing range is perfect to help keep the precious heat in. Our secondary is slim and discreet (you wouldn’t even know it was there) but has all the functionality needed to help keep that all import heat in. Our secondary glazing costs from around £50 and can help you save 10%-20% (Savings depend on household and how much you pay for heating fuel).

Do you need outside access on an even panelled bi-folding door?

Well Duration Windows has the answer.

In the past if you had a bifold with an even number of panels folding in any direction it was impossible to offer outside access due to the way the handles function.

But with our new Pendulum handle (which is available on the Durafold 1000) all this has changed. These handles can now be used on the interior and exterior thus creating outside access for your even panelled door.

The handle can also be used on traffic doors thus offering continuity on your bifolding door. The overall look when using the same style of handle on all panels of the door is certainly pleasing to the eye.

With its slim design and easy operation this handle offers the perfect balance in style and function.
